Ok, GB and I were talking on irc and i was dreaming about how cool it would be if I could hook up my computer to the satelite dish reciver. GB and I were concluding that you could probably get a Y splitter and run a cable from the reciver and run it to the computer and plug it into the video in part of the card. Any ideas on how to do this what i need and how much $ it will cost would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :thumb:
I have my cable tv hooked up to my computer, it is hooked to my "TV 98" card, its kinda fun watching tv and web surfing.
you need the reciever to translate the signal from your dish. No go gentlemen.
It don't work the same as in cable...which is now mostly digital and i don't think
you can do it with the TV card like you used too. Let me know if anyone has lately
with digital cable.
Split the cables coming out of the receiver, where they've already been interpreted. Need to convert the RCA audio plugs to 3/8" jacks to get it into the line in on your sound card, or you could try straight RCA and hook it up to your amp directly. The video should connect to your VIVO without any trouble.

Shouldn't cost too much, since it's just cable manipulation. The biggest concern is attenuation with the Y-splitter.
Would the signal split properly? I know cable doesnt split to well. And what about software? The signal would be diffrent from cable so im assuming i would need diffrent software.
Quote:Anyways, I really haven't found any satellite TV-ready PC-TV cards that don't require a connection to satellite TV set-top receiver box for use in the United States. Specifically, I haven't heard of any specific TV card that works directly to receive DirecTV or DISH satellite TV broadcasts without the satellite receiver set-top box -- the problem is that you need the decoder and I don't think DirecTV or DISH want to let PC users have direct access to a decoder on a PC. The best solution appears to be getting a regular TV Tuner card and simply hooking it up to a satellite receiver box where the box does the decoding.

Keep in mind that if you want satellite TV on your PC, then you can always hook up a satellite TV set-top receiver box to a regular PC-TV Tuner card. In that sense, just about any PC-TV Tuner card is "satellite TV ready" athough you will still need to hook up the external satellite TV receiver set-top box (which decodes the satellite signal) to the TV card on the PC in order to get the satellite TV reception, change to channel 3 or channel 4 (or switch to Video In, depending on your video connection), and use the remote control for your satellite box to change the channels.
Sounds like what we were thinking. Although I really wanted a decorder so i could do other stuff while watching TV.
like download all that porn stuff we hear so much about. . .I tell ya man, you gotta stop otherwise your computer will be riddled with pop-ups!
Why does everyone keep saying that?
I SAW you in that movie Anon....we know your secret side!!!
I probably shouldnt say who the woman was in that movie then...
OH COME-ON!!! Kathy Bates is a good actress!!:P

Erm. Don't you guys have SCART ? Use that to seperate the signals. Works a dream for me.
What is it and where can i get it? and $?

Well, over here most devices come with SCART connections built on them. From the sounds of it, you don't get that over there :/ Basically, it allows multiple devices to share data (audio / visual) and you can buy splits. As an example, my stereo uses a SCART lead into my Video Player which receives the incoming Ariel. So, the sound goes out to my speakers on my stereo rather than through the TV though I could have that playing it too.

Having just done a google defintion search it seems it's a europe based thing. Didn't quite realise that. Alas.
It sounded like something we should have. There is probably something quite similar to that here.
or it'll just be released later and we'll all be told it's the latest in computer technology and they'll charge well over $200 for it and people will believe it and buy it and in the end we'll all end up completely broke. . .but hey at least we can intertwine all of our electronic devices! :P
