HA, this time I looked at the dates before posting!!! Anyway its been confirmed that Japan has already shut down one of its satellites.

Suppose to be a beauty of a sky show tonight for most of the northern hemisphere.

in a somewhat related story: I once saw the northern lights in NewYork. Some nights it is possible for them to travel that far south. Yes, aurora borealis, right in my backyard. There was no color to it, just rapid moving waves of white across the sky.

They say the green and red lights are from the burning O2 atoms in the atmosphere and the blue is from N2.

If I had a camera I would keep it ready as I have never actually seen it myself, but I'm hopeing that I will see them over the next night or two. Who knows.

Either get some extremely fast film or get a tripod and leave the shutter open. Can't really snapshot aurora borealis, especially since it is only visible at night (when film is essentially ineffective without a strong light source such as a flash for pics within a few feet, or the shutter must be left open for a while with a wide open aperture).
