My computer has gotten the so-called "Parite" virus and know my ricochet and every other program on my computer is dead. I have noticed that it is a dropper virus so it just goes happily to all of my EXE files and gives it the virus then it starts spreading. It is probably the worst and most annoying viruses I have ever had on my computer. This means I have to reinstall Battlefield 1942 all three games, Counter-Strike, Ricochet, and call of duty which I just got the other day, Halo, plus all the updates I had on all of them. I just wanted to ask if anyone has ever had this stupid virus and see if you can give me any help to get rid of it. I just have one other thing to say and that is...DO NOT USE KAZAA WITHOUT AN ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE!!! I hope to see you guys back on the site soon.

Read everything before trying to preform anything. Symantec has been a pretty good site for getting rid of stuff.

A few suggestions for the future once you get your system clean...

Soon as something is downloaded, even before you move it anywhere scan it with an uptodate virus scanner.

I use Norton anti-virus. Its caught everything before it could get onto my system except for one thing which I think came from one of those freakin autoinstall sites that don't give you an option to not install stuff.

Also download and keep installed...

Both are GREAT programs for finding spyware installed on your system. Each of them seem to be able to find stuff the other can't.

I keep all my anti-spyware and anti-virus software uptodate but checking for updates every week or when ever I think about it, or which ever comes first.

The main thing thou is to check ALL files no matter what kind of file they are exe, zip rar, mp3, what ever everytime you download them. When I download stuff even off of sites that I trust I always check for viruses first.

The check for spyware is a harder job and must be preformed when ever you can do it. When I do a full scan of my system it can take hours just because I scan EVERY file and I scan inside of zip/rar files too which can take a long time if you have the amount of zips and rars I have.

If you must use Kazaa, use Kazaalite if you don't know about it already. My suggestion thou is to use winmx. Unlike Kazaa, it don't have any ads or spyware in it.

Also check out this page, I think its a must for anyone that uses winmx.

Also use http://www.google.com to seach for info about virus infections as its great. All I seached for was W32/Parite.A and found lots of info on it quickly :D
Thanks Gwarsbane, I think I got rid of most of it but it just kept multiplieing which was pretty annoying. I think the virus wore off on me while I was trying to fix it last night cause' now I'm out of school with the flu:D.
I have heard too many horror stories with Kazaa. I would use something else if you can.
http://www.winmx.com rules even thou it can be hard to find files sometimes, but then again I haven't had as good of luck with kazaa as I have had with winmx.

As long as you scan every file that comes onto your system before you click on it or move it anywhere you should be ok.
I use winMX, and so far it's been working fine for me
Same for me... 9 months I use WinMx and no problems:thumb:
