RWS's Incoherent Rambling - RuNnInG_wIth_ScISsOrS - 10-08-2003 :thumb:Jumping the gun, eh Arnold? For all of you non-Californians, Arnold Schwarzenegger is being projected by EVERYONE/EVERYWHERE that he will be the victor in this campaign. Currently, only 31% of Californian precincts have submitted their results. Here's how it's going: Recall Davis? Yes 1,792,907 54.6% No 1,488,574 45.4% Top candidates Arnold Schwarzenegger 1,486,556 Cruz Bustamante 947,760 Tom McClintock 389,844 Peter Camejo 71,628 According to the 2000 Census, California's population is 33,871,648. It's interesting to note that more people participated in the recall election than the initial one. So even with only 50% or so of the Californian population voting, this leaves a shitload of people's votes that have yet to be counted. Even though Arnold has a 99.99999% chance of winning, it still pisses me off that he didn't wait at least a day before launching his victory speech. This portrays society these days, no one is optimistic, the glass is always half empty. There is still plenty of room for Bustamante to snag a victory. Why is Arnold jumping the gun like this? I personally wanted Arnold to win, but you have to keep your zeal in check and look at the whole of the situation. Battle rage and hindered sight can block you from understanding both the black and the white of the situation. Patience is a virtue after all. If you think I'm getting stuck up on petty details, you have to remember that a lot of "big" businessmen love to play golf with financial partners or opponents that they are just meeting. In most cases, how they play the game reflects how they do business. On another note, that Arianna Huffington is a coward, I can't believe she dropped out after participating in that one debate with Arnold and the other front runners. After disrespecting/insulting everybody and calling people on irrelevant issues, she should have had at least the tenacity to see what people thought of her. Personally, I think she's a cold hearted ***I'm Stupid for Swearing*** that can never stand on her own two feet. Just my 2 cents on the California recall election. :thumb: RWS's Incoherent Rambling - g-boy - 10-08-2003 Arnold won... anyway, good times... I really wanted to vote, but the damn registrar took too long to send me the absentee ballot, I got it the day before the election. Anyway, I would have voted for Arnold, and would have voted yes on prop 54... unfortunately it failed, but oh well. RWS's Incoherent Rambling - [CAKE]anonymity - 10-08-2003 what was prop 54? RWS's Incoherent Rambling - FreeFall - 10-08-2003 Arnold won... hmm. No comment RWS's Incoherent Rambling - RuNnInG_wIth_ScISsOrS - 10-08-2003 [CAKE Wrote:anonymity,Oct 8 2003, 10:15 PM] what was prop 54?This was Prop 54. RWS's Incoherent Rambling - Wha? - 10-08-2003 Wow. I'll have to go over the full text of it some time. I wonder why it failed. RWS's Incoherent Rambling - RuNnInG_wIth_ScISsOrS - 10-08-2003 I voted for Arnold, but not Prop 54. Ethnicity does indeed have an effect on medical care, but not in how you're thinking. People should stop thinking of these questionaires in racist terms, and more along the lines of, "What color are your eyes?" When you say someone is wearing a black t-shirt, you don't think, "Wow, does this ###### have something against black t-shirts? He should have said a dark t-shirt." Here's a quick article I pulled up on eye-care and ethnicity. When they ask you your ethnicity, it's like asking if your family has a history in heart conditions. I'm not denying that racism doesn't exist, all I'm saying is that ethnicity can give medical staff a better idea of what to expect and test for. RWS's Incoherent Rambling - g-boy - 10-08-2003 If race or ethnicity had a relevance for someone's medical care (and it definitely does in many cases, like sickle cell anemia), I believe they could use it if needed. The prop was meant to eliminate the tracking and labelling of people by race or ethnicity by the government. The main reason it failed is because minorities DO want discrimination, if it works in their favor. My problem with this is that I do believe in helping people if they really need it, like for education. HOWEVER, I think it should be based on class/economic status rather than race. It so happens that yes, certain ethnicities and communities are lower in economic status, but why track their backgrounds? I may be a bit biased because I am a white, blond-haired, blue eyed born-in-America middle-class college student. Some white people are lower in economic status... but because they are white, someone who is hispanic in the same situation may get more help or opportunity. And in my case, actually, we are not very high up there, because my family makes 42k/year, not counting the 900/month in rent, which places us in a void for my college education... we make too much to qualify for anything, there is not much in the way of scholarships or grants (all my scholarships have to be based on academic performance or some skill). However, we don't make enough to pay for much on our own. The gap is filled in with loans, which will be a pain in the ass for me later on. Point of all of this? I dunno, I went on a tangent. I just think that there are better ways to track people and help them out than using their race or ethnicity... because yes, there is a correlation between some races and their status and opportunities, but it is not a cause-and-effect situation. Targeting an ethnicity to help them does nothing, it can only serve to lower their sense of self-worth by telling them that they need help. RWS's Incoherent Rambling - RuNnInG_wIth_ScISsOrS - 10-13-2003 Next person to state that Valve owes us something because of Steam gets shot in the face. You can still use WON you moronic shits, think of Steam as still being in the "beta" stage. I also love how people are ***I'm Stupid for Swearing***ing about a free product. Sorry for FORCING you to download a free and unneccesary (currently) product. On a side note, they are not setting up a pay to play online system, if you actually read the steampowered.com homepage, you would understand this. You have no right to justify the source theft through Steam untill they've shut down WON, but they haven't, so SHUT THE ***I'm Stupid for Swearing*** UP. Valve doesn't owe you anything, so stop plaguing humanity with your existence and go head-butt a sharp, pointy object. Quote:wer usin the source to help with modin, gota be readyNo, the SDK will be released before Half-life 2 is, so calm down and stop making up excuses. I seriously doubt you even know what C++ is, since you lack proper language skills. Mods are not created by illiterate morons with ADHD that can't keep focus for 1.5 seconds. Then these "m4d h4x0rZ m@Pp3rz" that hang out in the half-life 2 channels, shut up and sit down idiot. They'll talk about logic and Valve owing them everything. How they'll get a head start on mapping and give the community a better experience. Then they'll say something like, "Oh shit man, I've got an entire 100 GB drive filled with pr0n." There are several things wrong with this: 1. Anyone that wastes money on a 100 GB drive only for pornography should have toothpicks shoved underneath their fingernails. 2. About 5 seconds later, 20 people did the emote command and high fived him. 3. In the amount of time it took for you to fill up your 100 GB drive with pornography, anyone could have gotten laid 101 times. 4. You know there's no hope for humanity when some little shit gets a 100 GB drive to use on pornography while I can barely afford a new mouse. 5. Porn is not spelled with a zero and a misplaced N. 6. This is tomorrow's leaders ladies and gentlemen, the future is going to be bright. 7. Suicide is looking more attractive every day. Now, onto completely irrelevant matters. Quote:My problem with this is that I do believe in helping people if they really need it, like for education. HOWEVER, I think it should be based on class/economic status rather than race.I agree, I think race has no place in education, but you have to take the good with the bad. Prop 54's negative effects on law enforcement and health care far outweighs it's advantages in education. The Attorney General even stated that this would hurt efforts to prevent/prosecute hate crimes. As for medical care, I stated my opinion on that matter earlier. Quote:The main reason it failed is because minorities DO want discrimination, if it works in their favor.I seriously doubt that, but let me continue along a more logical route than pure opinion: Anyone wants all the positive effects, but none of the negative ones. It's not like there isn't precedent for this. An example would be that zealous atheist kid down the street that calls anyone that believes in any religion stupid. They're ok with the fact that they get 2 weeks off for Christmas, oops, "Winter" break, but when it comes to any of the negative (Using this term loosely, eye of the beholder yo) effects, they're no where to be seen. Would you rather go through heart surgery awake, or go under the scalpel while knocked out on anesthesia. I'll stick to the extreme usage anesthesia, but if you want to pass on the anesthesia, you receive the small positive effect of living, but feel pain beyond your wildest nightmares. Quote:there is a correlation between some races and their status and opportunitiesGood with the bad. Quote:Targeting an ethnicity to help them does nothing, it can only serve to lower their sense of self-worth by telling them that they need help.If you base your self-worth on the opinions of others, then I feel the utmost pity for you. It's true that words can/do hurt you more than sticks and stones, but basing your opinion of yourself on the words of some paper pushing bureaucratic punk is stupidity. I'm told us white people can't jump, but I still played JV/Varsity basketball. Nothing more satisfying than proving someone wrong, but that's just me. ;) All biased ranting aside, the main reason I choose to vote No on Prop 54 was the the nature of the opposition to the bill. While I think ethnicity should not be a factor in education, the people that are opposed to the bill under education aren't exactly nobodies. I've never managed an educational institute, so they probably know something I do not. We then take a look at the pro-prop 54 folks, and their endorsers aren't so spectacular.
