http://www.planetunreal.com

Quote:Epic Games has released a new official patch to UT2004, build 3355; it's completely compatible with the retail version and previous patches - servers and clients of any version can connect with eachother.

In addition, the patch won't overwrite your ut2004.ini and user.ini files (except to update particular settings.) However, please note that this patch should be installed after installing the Epic ECE Bonus Pack, as it updates some of the game code included with the ECE.

I think that many of you will love the new patch, as it fixes quite a few things that people have been wanting - except the damned flak/rockets no-damage bug. Anyhow, amongst the demo-recording fixes and addition of vCTF to the server browser, here's what's new:

**General Gameplay**

Fixed stuttering/snagging/sinking into static meshes in some places on clients in net games

Improved getting out of water

Fixed FaceClassic teleporter exploit

The Cicada hud indicators should now show up in all game modes.

Fixed SPMA causing damage at world origin.

Fixed not being able to exit raptor when it's on the ground

Fixed (for assault) the energy core always showing on the HUD even if it not the current objective (thanks AngelMapper)

**Networking**

Server performance improvements

Cheating detection improvements, with shorter time for master server ban detection Integration of UTAN bans with UT2004 master server. Admins can opt out by adding bIgnoreUTANBans=true to [IpDrv.MasterServerUplink]

Fixed potential garbage collection crash when changing levels during network games

Improved caching of server data for when you can't connect to the master server.

UTV updated (netspeed fix).

Better Client->Server->MS Error Messages

**Demo Recording**

Added code to insure StopDemo is executed before a map change or game exit

Remove 8x from the demo playback menu. The engine has problems with that speed.

Fixed bug in Demo Playback menu that caused the Play/Pause button to be out of sync

Added Demo playback jog keys to the console.

Left Cursor slows down playback (1/4x -> 1/2x)

Right cursor speeds ups playback (2x -> 4x)

Up/Down cursor resets to 1x

Disable by settings bDemoJogKeys=false in [XInterface.ExtendedConsole]

**Engine**

Improved level loading speed, especially on network clients

Fixed calling SetBase(NULL) on all attached actors when an actor is destroyed

**Editor**

Fix for importing static meshes

**Menus**

Model select page now properly selects the current character when you open it.

Korean localization updates.

VCTF now appears in server browser, even if you don't already have any VCTF maps installed.

Added code to sync the Stream (MP3) volume with normal music volume.

Epic doesn't have any official (public) mirrors up yet, but you can be sure they'll come soon. Until then, you can grab the patch from one of these two mirrors:

Quote:It's here! Version 3339 has arrived, with a slew of new bugfixes. In addition, ECE version 1.1 has been released, for those who haven't downloaded it yet.
We have also have an updated version of the ECE bonuspack which replaces the current version. It is fully compatible with 3339. Users who install this patch after having already installed the old version of the bonuspack will not need to download this new bonuspack, which is intended only for fresh bonus pack installs.

The new patch weighs in at 12.9 MB, and you can grab it from any of the various mirrors found in either of these Atari/INA threads. They both contain slightly different mirror sets, so if you can't find a suitable mirror in one, try the other. Here they are:

Thread 1 (Complete with changelist)
Thread 2

Remember, this patch is completely compatible with the retail version - servers and clients of any flavor can connect with each other. This patch will not overwrite your ut2004.ini and user.ini files, except to update settings as necessary. This patch also includes all changes made in Patches 1, 2, 3, and 4. A few of the most notable changes include:

Tweaked powercore destruction and electricity sounds
Fixed Berserk combo (properly turns client side weapon changes on and off)
Various team-balancing improvements
Fix for clients unable to connect with "Incompatible Games Files" message
Fix for annoying server browser bug (not showing correct initial game type).
Fixed Unrealed working with Windows 98
If you plan on using UnrealED with Windows 98, you will need to download an install the MSVCP60.DLL library. This file can be downloaded here. Without this file, the editor will not run under Windows 98.

Run a dedicated server with bots, connect to it to start it up, and let them go at it.

Mod Author Related:
Fixed spider physics view direction setting bug
Added (slow) full dangling reference checking (server side only) option. Logs dangling references which could cause a crash during gameplay or on GC. Use only for testing, as it is very slow, by adding bServerRefChecking=true to the [Engine.Engine] section of UT2004.ini. Run a dedicated server with bots, connect to it to start it up, and let them go at it.

Figured I would pass this on to all the UT2004 players, who knows you might want to enter.

Quote:Proving Grounds is proud to announce our first cash tournament is ready for signups! The tournament is Unreal Tournament 2004 Onslaught 6vs6. As mentioned earlier this week, our cash tournaments require an entry fee from all participants - this tournament's fee is $30.00 per team. With this fee we are able to offer attractive prizes for the top 6 teams ranging from $100 to $500.

Our cash tournaments will be run slightly different from regular tournaments. Some of the main differences include mandatory demos, stricter enforcement of checkins, admin spectators, specifically assigned match times and a faster pace later on in the tournaments when the brackets are smaller. We believe this allows for a more exciting competition environment and also brings cheat protection to a higher level ensuring winners are determined solely based on skill.

Before signing up please make sure you read our tournament rules to ensure you understand these different rules and will also be available during the possible match times. We hope to get this tournament underway within a couple weeks so sign up as soon as you can! As always, if you have any questions you can respond to this post in our forums and we will answer them right away.

My experiment with running a UT2004 server has come to an end. With Doom3 out and HL2 around the corner it is time for me to move on to bigger and better things.

I had planned to do this all along back when I first started my server. I was only going to run it for a few months until HL2 came into clearer view. Now with the added Doom3 stuff that I want to do I had to make decisions. The UT community while a decent size will obviously start to dwindle some with Doom3 and HL2. I must go to where the crowd is going to be. I'm no rich man by any means and while I was able to afford my one server I can't afford three. The only reason I can do two servers now is because of how low the max player count can be on a Doom3 server. So when I add a HL2 server the money spent per month should be the same.

Now the good news. Grits has decided to run her own UT2004 server so there will still be a place to play for those interested in playing. I wish her good luck with it. I will be there to help out where I can.
