Guessing that means npcs are following you, I think you can have as many as 5(?) pretty realistically smart ones follow you at once.

On a side note, HL2's first review on PCGamer magazine got a 96% (same score the first half-life got), while Doom3 got 90% to give you a little comparison. PCGamer isn't easy when it comes to scoring a game, so I'm going to go ahead and say this is going to be one KICKASS game, not only because of the graphics, either.
