With the release of UT2004 coming I have decided to look into renting a server for it. It is not a definate yes that I will however. Depends on pricing and pings before I make the leap. If anyone has a list of a few sites that rent servers please share them.
This will be a first for me as I have never attempted anything like this before so I'm just looking at options right now. Looking at something like a 10-12 player. Should be good for some Assault/Onslaught action. Attracting players will be tough but that I will have to deal with.
Stay Tuned.
Wow oh wow... lotsa maps to play with

I don't know if Holdouts id going to offer UT2004. I don't even think they offer UT2003. I see only HL and it's mods, COD, and BF1942. However I do see the original UT a.k.a UT99. I'll have to email him to find out. With the way the servers have been crashing on Rico I don't know how stable a UT2004 server would be from him.

i like the original ut...particularly the ctf mode. the action is really fast. if i had more hd space, i'd probably still play it. if i had better comp. specs in general, i would likely try the newer ut's.
the new holdouts cs server has been very stable and the ping has been a bit better than the rico servers for some reason.

You should see some of the WCG tournament replays of UT2003, the action in 1v1 matches makes Ricochet look like a bore in comparison. Too bad I'm too cheap to go out and buy it, I'll be buying 2004 for sure though.
BTW Power, have you played a UT2003 mod named Red Orchestra? I hear it's one of the most realistic online FPS games ever made, and very fun.

I played RO when it first came out and thought it is was pretty good. I have not got around to playing it recently. I know it's early in it's playing cycle so much improvement is needed. The no crosshairs thing takes time to adjust, but it is a promising mod.

I got a reply from Holdout's asking about UT2004 server rentals.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Matt,
Thanks. I had a UT2003 server up but no one is renting it any more. I will
see if I can get it back up. Or I will check to see if the UT2004 Demo will
run on LINUX. If so I will put that up for you. For sure I will be renting
UT2004 when it comes out as I have rented the original UT and UT2003 servers
before.
The price would be $4 a player and I give you two spots for free. Also get
Team Speak for free if you want it. I heard that UT2004 has built in voice
chat so might not need Team Speak.
Thanks for your interest and I will reply back when I get something up for
you to test.
Thanks,
Stefan

Latest update from Holdout's is that he is behind on some things and will try to have it today. That email was sent at about 9AM. So hopefully something will be in place for the weekend.
I think he is just going to put up this server to test pings and whatnot. I currently do not see the server staying up until the retail version is out. The guy does have to make money. I will let you all know when it's up if you wish to try it out.
