Hurricane gonna hit Halifax Nova Scotia
#1
While I'm not worried about anything happening to my place I just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

If I am not around for a couple of days it could be because power is out or something like that. We have a catagory 2 hurricane headed for a direct hit on Halifax, I'm only 22km from Halifax so Its a direct hit on me too.

I'm not sure if its gonna be a cat 2 by the time it hits me (tonight in about 5 hours or so) as one report says it will gain strength before it looses strength. They say we will only have 100km/hour winds. We can have wind storms up here that match that, but there usually isn't all the rain that comes with a hurricane and they are usually just gusts.

So if our power goes out up here it might take a couple of days before I am able to contact anyone.

BTW we don't normally get hit by hurricanes, they usually just skim us slightly as they are dying or just totally miss us altogether.

So If anything happens I'll see yas all in a few days. :D

Forgot to mention the hurricanes name is Juan

You guys get some nasty ones, I was out to sea(submarine) one tour and we decided to do a reactor scram drill, in which you have to accomplish an emergency blow to the surface and then restart, this was my first patrol and I was a lowly seaman(noob) and they made me stand watch with a chain tied to me in 30 ft swells, well the reactor decided it didn't want to play and wouldn't restart for almost 24 hrs and this was just a noreaster, try that in a cigar boat someday and watch the rolls. Only good thing is since I was topside and cold as hell I didn't get sick when everyone else did.

ps. If you can stand it, always go to the galley during one and open a can of mustard sardines for revenge.

All my little guys (7 birds) are doing great. I was very surprised that not one of them made a sound during the night. I did move them out of the front room away from the big window to the hall so that they we're safter.

Power went out about 12:30 am and came back on about 8:30 pm.

As to damages locally there is a very large tree that was up rooted and is now leaning against the cable lines (thankfully the power lines were moved a little while ago to the front.

At about 10 or so the power flickered again and when it came back on there was a HUGE explosion from about 7 streets over right behind a friends of my moms. When the power flickered the transformer blew.

2 of my friends had to be evacuated from an apartment that partly collapsed, I was told one of them help the fire fighters get 3 people out of an apartment that they were stuck in. One friend has a wife and one has a girlfriend and both of them are safe too. They might be out of a home for about 1.5 months.

I have been told that a whole warf and restranunt are now inside the casino.

There are many many trees down (specialy in the public gardens, they are a HUGE mess)

One of the hospitals had a part of its roof torn off.

Thats it for now till I can get more time to see everything thats happened and to make sure my power don't cut out again when I typing something.
