I just mentioned stuff that came to mind and are on my mp3 list. There is so much more than this though, in terms of awesome songs. Though I love metal, punk, and alternative rock, I do have a soft spot for good bands doing mellow songs. For example, Good Riddance, Everlong (acoustic), Save Yourself, and I Miss You.

Gotta agree with Beastie for a couple, thanks for pointing them out.

Sublime - Date Rape
Beastie Boys - So Whatcha Want

In addition:
Beastie Boys - Sabotage
Pennywise - Alien (at least I think that's the name of the song...)

BTW, I hate Sublime, extremely overrated. But I do like that one song at least.

early Pavemet is very very good.

The Pixies are awesome!

Sonic Youth - that "daydream nation" era stuff

Samhain - glen danzig's band before danzig and after the misfits. "initium" is interesting.

oh yeah, might as well mention the Misfit's "static age" as well. otherwise, it's a crime...lol.

My Bloody Valentine - yep...good stuff. very discordiant but harmonious guitars.

Swell from san fransisco is the best bands nobodie's heard of. very sweet bay area sound. like a more honest, hipper 3rdEyeBlind. check out "41" and "well?"...their best albums.

"robot world" from new zealand's Bailter Space is one of the most beautiful guitar records in existance. nice sound textures.

oh yeah, "ritual de lo habitual" by the infamous Jane's Addiction is a great album.

wtf is wrong me?..must mention Fugazi's "Repeater" as a landmark album of post-punk genre. i love "steady diet of nothing" but not everyone agrees. dl the song "exit only" and tell me what you think.

as far as Nirvana, "bleach" is their best album. their other albums are far too inconsistent in quality.
