But why do you need your old keys, when you buy lets say the silver package, you get all the same guys you already had plus CS:S, DOD:S and HL2....so I don't see the big deal..

I think some of you are reading it wrong. This only pertains to people who buy it over steam. Everything is tied to your steam account. They know what you bought and what to give you access to.
