Ricochet Deathmatch
#1
Ok, so I think I posted code that would fix the bug where you can get points off dead bodies, but after playing The Specialists a lot, I got to thinking that Rico's DM should have the same sort of thing where it forces you to click firing to start playing again.

How many times do people just go idle and not bother to log out of the game?! Yeah, they're great for easy points... but who wants an easy life! The only thing I'm not sure of, is how to actually implement that within the Ricochet code...

if people just go idle I would rather seem them booted out of the game after say 2 to 3 minutes like that. If they still want to play they can connect back up after they are doing doing what they are doing.

I like how TS and other mods makes put you in spec mode until you press fire to get back in. The question I would have is how would we know who is afk for long periods of time taking up a spot? Someone might decide after they die to just sit afk in spec while they go do something. I always kick afk's if the server was full or near full to open up that spot. That would be hard to tell in DM when you can't actually see the person who is afk. I can always do a slay through the list of players, but I tend to stay away from that command cause it bothers some players which is understandable.

That's probably where the status command could probably do with some sort of IDLE timing, or something like that. Anyway, I can usually tell whose AFK (even in spectator mode) because I look at the userlist a lot during my playing time... :)

isn't that what mp_forcerespawn does? maybe it doesn't work in ricochet....never tested it.

There are adminMod plugins that will kick an inactive player after a period of time but that would only work in DM, I believe. Because of the waiting period in arena I do not think it would work.

well in arena its easier to tell in arena as well, you'll either come across them or someone else will and say hes afk, or u can find out through spectator when the other games are wrapping up. In dm you've got your admining hands full with the normal arena stuff plus spawn rebound killers and that sort of thing, its quite difficult to know whos afk.

Ii's easier for me in DM cause I can see all of the players and can see someone not shooting or moving.

I say add a way to respawn after being put in spectator. Then admins can run the command spectate for people they see are afk. Later, if they haven't returned, they can kick them. Nothing automatic, because I still enjoy a good game of AFKball.

That wouldn't exactly work. Once you've gone 'spectate' the only way back is to reconnect... Trust me, I foudn that out the hard way:)

But that is exactly the same as using the method I suggested originally! Therefore, you haven't suggested anything new. The only difference being that you leave AFK people sat around on the map when they aren't there... which is pointless.
