Ok, GB and I were talking on irc and i was dreaming about how cool it would be if I could hook up my computer to the satelite dish reciver. GB and I were concluding that you could probably get a Y splitter and run a cable from the reciver and run it to the computer and plug it into the video in part of the card. Any ideas on how to do this what i need and how much $ it will cost would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :thumb:

you need the reciever to translate the signal from your dish. No go gentlemen.
It don't work the same as in cable...which is now mostly digital and i don't think
you can do it with the TV card like you used too. Let me know if anyone has lately
with digital cable.

Split the cables coming out of the receiver, where they've already been interpreted. Need to convert the RCA audio plugs to 3/8" jacks to get it into the line in on your sound card, or you could try straight RCA and hook it up to your amp directly. The video should connect to your VIVO without any trouble.
Shouldn't cost too much, since it's just cable manipulation. The biggest concern is attenuation with the Y-splitter.

Would the signal split properly? I know cable doesnt split to well. And what about software? The signal would be diffrent from cable so im assuming i would need diffrent software.

OH COME-ON!!! Kathy Bates is a good actress!!:P
Erm. Don't you guys have SCART ? Use that to seperate the signals. Works a dream for me.

What is it and where can i get it? and $?
Well, over here most devices come with SCART connections built on them. From the sounds of it, you don't get that over there :/ Basically, it allows multiple devices to share data (audio / visual) and you can buy splits. As an example, my stereo uses a SCART lead into my Video Player which receives the incoming Ariel. So, the sound goes out to my speakers on my stereo rather than through the TV though I could have that playing it too.

It sounded like something we should have. There is probably something quite similar to that here.

or it'll just be released later and we'll all be told it's the latest in computer technology and they'll charge well over $200 for it and people will believe it and buy it and in the end we'll all end up completely broke. . .but hey at least we can intertwine all of our electronic devices! :P
