Either get some extremely fast film or get a tripod and leave the shutter open. Can't really snapshot aurora borealis, especially since it is only visible at night (when film is essentially ineffective without a strong light source such as a flash for pics within a few feet, or the shutter must be left open for a while with a wide open aperture).
